Over the last few months we had been hearing blocky whispers of a new game in the LEGO franchise that would revolve around the plethora… nay, HERITAGE of the Rock Band universe.  Today Harmonix made our wildest cubic dreams come true with the introduction of LEGO Rock Band (via press release).

The game, coming Holiday 2009 from Traveler’s Tales Games, is intended to be the family-oriented version of a game that uses fake plastic instruments with brightly-colored buttons.  The game will use the current Rock Band instruments when it arrives for the Wii, PS3, 360 and DS (!?).  No word on how the DS version will function, apart from the obviously possible Rock Band Unplugged (PSP) mechanic.

Let’s take bets on when the first brick-like guitars and drums will be released.  Anyone?

The playlist is pop/kid-friendly with music from Pink, Blur, and Europe’s epic “The Final Countdown“.
