#STBW: Squash The Beef Wednesday

One thing to note about Twitter is that it can spawn several methods cultural memery, not the least of which is the # hashtag phenomenon.  Popular hashtags – words or phrases with a hashtag in front of them to denote a message in a conversation amongst a group – include the popular #followfriday and #tweetup tags.  The method has helped spawn weekly events on the popular social networking tool that quickly grow.

While we as gamers don’t normally dabble in social networking (we prefer dark basements and “haX0ring” for our lives outside of epic RPGs) we can commend those of our ilk who actually do.  The most recent up-and-coming Twitter meme is #SBTW, or “Squash The Beef Wednesday”, started by Joystiq’s @justinmcelroy.  STBW is intended to help quell any issues between individuals by pushing kindness and forgiveness.  Even though you normally dislike someone, you can still give them a little “props” on something they’ve accomplished.

Justin, we no longer have beef with Joystiq.  We’ll just continue to create “funny” Photochops in the Joystiq Podcast Appreciation Group that depict you in awkward situations.

QOTD: As gamers, what social networking tools do you use?  And, do you engage in hashtag-foolery on Twitter?
