However ,

While I visited a friend of mine there, Shanghai was caught in the worst typhoon of the past decade. That wouldn’t have been a problem if my friend hadn’t been stuck on the other side of the city and the fridge was empty. And I was hungry. So hungry, in fact, that I decided to go out to find something to eat.
Never having even seen a typhoon before, I pulled on my jacket, grabbed my umbrella and headed out. After about five seconds my umbrella looked like a very scrawny tv-antenna and I remember thinking “Wow, the other umbrellas on the street must be from people just giving up on them in this weather.” – As I narrowly dodged one of them darting from a roof about a block away I came to the conclusion that the “umbrellas” in the street were in fact tv-antennas.
The walk would normally have taken about five minutes but lasted for almost 45. I was glad that I wore shorts and had a tight jacket, as my wind resistance was lower. Luckily I was walking against the wind, so I could lean into it and thereby give me an added push without too much risk of loosing my grip. Smaller cars were rattling in their place, and some of the larger ones parked with their side to the wind simply flipped, as if they were toys. I got really worried when a tree zipped past me, it’s trunk broken off where it had been cemented into the ground.
At last I reached my destination; The neighborhood Pizza Hut. , And it was open!
I tumbled inside where a waiter asked if he could take my jacket and umbrella (of which very little remained). A large bowl of spaghetti with a creamy ham and mushroom sauce have never been so satisfying.
When the winds seemed to have settled I ventured back. Fortunately I, and my pile of matchsticks previously called an umbrella, was able to get inside the apartment before the eye of the storm had passed.

Man what a rush!
