Gaming in 1982 is vastly different than it is today.  We have Hi-Def, they had 8 track.  We have Blu Ray, they had… 8 track.  Well, we have it pretty good, I’d say.  One thing that hasn’t seemed to change is the “expert’s” view on gaming.  In this case, 1982′s experts have dictated to us that gaming is great for grandpa’s motor skills and self-confidence, but detrimental to the minds of the youth.  Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, himself a former pediatric surgeon, noted that “zapping Martians” had adverse effects on the sleeping habits of youths.  Apparently, he had the same experience I did when playing Red Faction‘s multiplayer late on Tuesday nights.

Have a good, fun read of the article from The Ledger in November of ’82 via Google News.
