NextBox and DS2 Rumors Abound?

Rumors are floating around this week of the successors to both the XBox 360 and the Nintendo DS.

First, the XBox:

According to Fudzilla, the ever-faithful “industry sources” have leaked that AMD/ATI already have an agreement with Microsoft to supply the GPU for the Nextbox.  Apparently, MS was happy with the current Box’s Xeon chip and could continue use of an updated (and possibly 28nm) one for the new machine as early as 2012.

Now, the DS rumor:

Nintendo, excited about the Tegra chips in the new Zune HD, has contracted Nvidia to produce them for the next DS.  The single Tegra “System-on-Chip” processor is powerful enough to handle any applications of the currently dual-ARMed DS/DSi, which translates to backwards compatibility beign a go.  BSN reports that the next DS might even be unveiled as early as Late-2010 for a release the same year.  It seems a bit early to us since the DSi was just released THIS year but that never stopped Nintendo before, right GBA Micro?

In other words, 2010 is turning out to be a mighty interesting year for both games and consoles, as we pick ourselves up from this disastrous calamity of a Great Recession.
