Student-made Metal Gear Solid Movie an Ode to Fandom

Hive Division, a collective of Italian filmmakers and students, have done what many fans have attempted before them: create a Metal Gear Solid fan movie that doesn’t suck.  The film, titled “Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy”, is a no-budget non-profit labor of love that the group has released to the web.  Utilizing special effects, inspired settings, and even Metal Gear-esque acting (read: sometimes intentionally cheesy) the film is a well put together piece detailing Snake’s battle with terrorist group Philanthropy.  Subs, nukes, firefights, gears… it’s all there.

The fan-made film is arguably as good as many previous video game inspired movies, and considering the original production started in 2002 the producers have had plenty of time to tweak it just right.

Kojima would be proud, and our Sunday afternoon viewing has been satisfied.
