The Evening Report: Games of the Past, Present and Future

I know we are a day late with our news roundup, but hopefully in the end you won’t come up a dollar short. (It totally works if you read to the end.) Somehow the stars synchronized into some type of cosmic, nerd formation and everyone on the staff suddenly found a social life on a Thursday night; so instead of spitting in the face of fate, we ran with it. Never the less here within this post is our latest round of news.

According to our friends over at Giant Bomb, Telltale dropped a bomb of their own today with the announcement of not one, not two, but three new games in their pipeline. The first of which is a Walking Dead game, based on the graphic novels written by Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, which is slated to be distributed across various platforms. The second game is a new Puzzle Agent game set to return to Nelson Tethers. The final game is a reboot of the Sierra On-Line’s King’s Quest.

This next news bit is because I’m a sucker for retro games; Back then if a game wouldn’t work you didn’t need a title update via Xbox Live, just blow into the cartridge and all was well. It has come to light that if you enter the most famous cheat code of all time into the recently release Hard Corps: Uprising game, you will be rewarded with some classic Contra Music. Now say it with me, “Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A.”

In a sad turn of events, the publisher of the first Xbox 360 game I ever played, Geometry Wars, closed their doors. Bizarre Creations, the Liverpool-based developer, closed shop after more than 16 years in the business. They did leave their fans with a farewell video.

On a brighter note, the team over at Joystiq has compiled a collection of $20 pre-order Amazon credits for upcoming games, such as Bulletstorm, Killzone 3 and Gears of War 3. Some of these games are a little ways off, but have no fear; Thirty Nerd confirmed with Amazon that if you order a game and the pre-order bonus increases you will still get the higher amount.
