The Sidequesting Evening Report

Team Sidequesting has decided to spice things up a bit and start offering up a news roundup every Monday through Friday and cap the week off with top five most know things of the week for gamers. The following items are the top news items the team thinks every gamer needs to know.

Our brofriends over at Joystiq discovered that a remake of the blockbuster hit Halo: Combat Evolved is currently receiving a complete graphics and multiplayer overhaul by Saber Interactive. The New Jersey-based company most recently released Timeshift, and are currently working on the upcoming game, Inversion. The game is suppose to be more than just prettied up graphics; The remake is set to include updated controls and cooperative story mode. Thankfully the original Xbox Halo multiplayer holdouts will finally have a place to call their own.

As if Angry Birds wasn’t everywhere already, it is now crashing the Super Bowl commercials. Rio, a movie based on said game, will have a promo trailer at some point between the bone-smashing hits of the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Why does this matter? One, it is the first ever advert in the NFL championship to contain an embedded code; two, that code is for a free level in Angry Birds. No word yet on whether this will be for all forms of the game or just specific to one platform. We do know however, that this will be the first time people cared enough about a commercial to watch it in slow motion. Source: Ad-Age

The only thing that could top the Super Bowl this weekend is the long-awaited return of jets in Battlefield 3. It seems like just yesterday we all grabbed our copies of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for some good, wholesome fun as we learned to crush our enemies, see them driven before us and…well, that is kind of the end of that for us. Until our mad skills can finally earn us the end of that quote, EA has released some details on the upcoming Battlefield 3. Sporting a full single player and co-op campaign, it will have more of that vehicle intensive, high-flying multiplayer goodness. Best of all, we’ll finally be getting to see the new Frostbite 2 engine in action.

Typically, when a game development studio shuts down, we all pour out a bit of our drink before we launch into our next round of Mega Halo: Super Deep Space. Thankfully, this time it seems that everything good from aforementioned studio has already been sold off before the faithful day hit. According to MCV, MTV Games has closed its doors, following its sale to Harmonix, and is running on a skeleton while some final business details are completed.
