The Evening Report: Portal Boners Edition

The Evening Report: Portal Boners Edition

Today, April 12th, saw several interesting news stories. But for me, I will remember this day for marking the point that I only have to wait one more week for Portal 2. I have tried extremely hard to not allow any news stories be seen by my eyes, and so far I have succeeded nearly 100%. I will go into Portal 2 with no expectations created by what I assume to be fabulous marketing by Valve.

Other stories today include Super Street Fighter 4 (3DS) sales, a new Humble Bundle, and Ocarina of Time for the 3DS gets a date.

Over the last few years, indie games have been making a push into the mainstream. With success stories happening on all platforms, indies are showing that they belong. The just-released Humble Indie Bundle is already doing well. Just several hours into the event, the Bundle has earned over 50,000 purchases worth $275,000. This bundle is different from past, however.

Offering titles from the developer Frozenbyte, instead of several different indie devs. The Bundle includes Trine, Shadowgrounds and Shadowgrounds: Survivor. Also included are the games Jack Claw (a prototype that requires an Xbox 360 controller) and Splot, a “modern-era fairytale in a playable form”. I urge you all to visit HumbleBundle.com and donate as much as you can afford, as it can go to several causes of your choosing.

I was about to write a piece praising Super Street Fighter 4 on the 3DS for an amazing feat of shipping one million copies since launch. While that alone is an achievement, SSF43D actually is a great game, one of few on the short-list of 3DS launch titles. When there isn’t much competition, anything can thrive.

On June 19th I will be buying Ocarina of Time for the third or fourth time. Yup, that is the day Nintendo has pegged for the 3D re-release of the ultra-popular title. Containing the Master Quest section, this is hopefully the final release and the most complete of them all. Hopefully Nintendo will now also see fit to give Majora’s Mask at least one updating.

Valve has their final bit of video marketing material for Portal 2 on the web now coming in their fourth, and obviously last “Aperture Investment Opportunity” clip. Check it out below:
