We apologize for this evening report being so late (that it’s morning).  We were too busy changing every password to everything we’ve ever signed up for.

Sony:  Personal information of PSN members has been compromised due to “external intrusion”

Almost a week has gone by since PSN has gone down, and Sony is now just coming out with more details regarding this issue.  Unfortunately, it’s more bad news for PSN members.  It looks like the “external intrusion” that Sony referred to a few days ago has all been due to a hacker attack.  This means that if you have a PSN account, it’s very possible that someone has gotten their grubby hands on your personal information such as your billing address, credit card number, credit card expiration date, e-mail address, birth date, Playstation Network password, and PSN online ID.  As a result, you probably want to go change all of your passwords to everything (especially if you have been using the same password for multiple websites).  The good news — if you want to call it that — is that Sony has said that there’s no way that the hackers could have found your credit card security code.  This is going to be a big problem and we’ll keep you posted as more details emerge.

Connecticut senator takes aim at Sony for their lack of transparency and support
Connecticut Senator, Richard Blumenthal, has taken aim at Sony for their lack of transparency regarding this issue.  In a letter to Sony he (politely) unloads on Jack Tretton, SCEA President and CEO.  The e-mail (which can be found at Joystiq in the link below) reprimands Sony for not being clear with their consumers about what has been happening as it has taken days for them to come out and tell their users that their personal information has been compromised.  Blumenthal calls on Sony to do the right thing and assume responsibility by taking some action towards notifying users if their data has been compromised and providing help for them.

Nintendo president unsatisfied with 3DS sales, will bolster advertising efforts

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has recently acknowledged the need to revitalize and revamp Nintendo 3DS advertising.  This stems from a dissatisfaction with 3DS sales in its first month.

Gamasutra’s Kyle Orland reports that the 3DS has sold almost 400,000 in America during its first week of sales, 371,000 in Japanese sales during its first two days on shelves, and 303,000 European units being sold during its opening weekend in Europe.  Although these numbers may be considered strong, Iwata is concerned with the sales drop-off in the following weeks.  Iwata realizes that they need to step their advertising game up in order to improve their numbers.

Will Portal 2 be Valve’s last game to offer a single-player experience?

On the heels of Portal 2‘s success, Valve has recently stated that Portal 2 may be the last of their games to have an “isolated single-player” experience.  This is a strong statement considering the success of Valve’s Half-Life series.  What could this say about the future Half-Life series?
