The Weekend Report: Easter Won’t Stop Us Edition

Here it is, Easter evening and I am reading through the news posts that have come in since Friday, and man, if you had to read through some of the clunkers that I did just to get you guys the important and notable stories you would appreciate me that much more. [Editor: Nope, still don’t appreciate you.] However, if I made you do that then this entire post would be worthless and you guys would hate the world.

A Link to the Past remake? A new Pokemon game? That and more about the failing PSN after the break.

If you are a frequent visitor of this site, you know that we love our Minecraft. And, if you visit any other site you know that everyone loves their Minecraft. So yesterday, when Markus Person of Mojang tweeted that Minecraft now has over seven million registered users and two million of those have purchased the game, we weren’t really surprised. When asked if any incentives were going to be offered to registered users to get them to buy the full game, Notch (Person’s screen name) said details on that may come later. I guess buying a great game for less then full price during beta isn’t enough incentive for some people.

If you listened to our podcast yesterday, you know that we aren’t exactly happy with the way Sony handled the alleged breach of the PSN and the Qriocity services. When Sony finally responded to the rumors on Friday, they were finally truthful, stating that “an external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services” had occurred. Forgetting that two days had gone by without telling users that their personal information could be at risk, Sony has (seemingly) handled the situation.

Another update yesterday stated that all PSN and Qriocity services had been shutdown for security purposes and that Sony was “re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure.” I am pretty sure they mean building, as they would have had to have an infrastructure to begin with to rebuild it. Our readers’ online safety is important, so we will update you with any news in the coming days.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past coming to 3DS?

One of the most beloved SNES games might also be one of the most loved Zelda games.  The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has the honor of being the only Zelda game for the Super Nintendo, and the last of the original traditional overhead console games in the series.  The game may now be joining it’s sibling the Ocarina of Time in the 3DS line-up of remakes, if creator Shigeru Miyamoto has anything to say about it. When asked recently by Edge magazine about a specific title he’d love to see remade for the portable, Shiggy noted that “to see Link To The Past in two layers would be quite attractive for me.”  God, we hope so.  It’s the best game in the series, and the Ocarina of Time kids can suck it.

Dengeki hints at new Pokemon game

Pokemon owned the charts back in March — it seems so long ago now, doesn’t it? — but there are already whispers about the next Pokegame making the rounds.  Andriasang reports that the Nintendo-only Dengeki Nintendo DS magazine has a tiny three-word phrase teasing an article in it’s July issue that has breeders of PocketMonsters in a tizzy: “Black & White and New Title Information”.  That’s it.  For all we know, it could be another downloadable minigame, a-la the many WiiWare Pokemon games that have broken from their orbs, or it could be information on a much-desired Pokemon Gray game for the Nintendo 3DS.  We’ll find out more info in about 30 days or less.
