The Evening Report: Fight for the Spotlight Edition

Yo dawg, we heard you like news, so here it is: a fine collection of the biggest news stories for Tuesday. It was tough picking the most important stories at first blush, as there were several fakers in there that wanted to be part of the important club.  But in the end they were just masquerading, trying to gain the undeserved attention of you, our fine readers.

Today we bring it hard. Sony avoiding a congressional hearing? Halo-mania? uDraw on 360/PS3? Read on for more info.

Metro 2033 was a Cinderella hit for THQ in 2010, when they exclaimed the title was “very profitable” for them. As soon as a publisher starts talking about profits, Media starts wondering about when the sequel will come, not even if it will come. So, that said and that known, guess what: there is a Metro 2033 sequel on the way! That’s right, Metro: Last Light will be hitting… unnamed consoles, for an unknown price, at an unknown time! But at least we know it is coming!

FYI: The Xbox Live demo of Red Faction: Armageddon is now up. I have yet to test it out, but if it is the same demo that was present at PAX East this year, it sure is a hell of a time. I urge you to test out the magnet gun, as Dali noted in his PAX East preview and I noted in our PAX East podcast, that weapon is amazing and more. Seriously, take a couple minutes and get that download started.  Besides, if enough folks download it — a million to be precise — we get a farting rainbow unicorn gun name Mr Toots. Seriously.

Last week Sony had a crisis on their hands with the announcement of the PSN breach. This week that crisis multiplied with the SOE announcement of another breach. Understandably, Sony officials are a bit busy and even more on edge. So when the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade called Sony to the podium and they denied, I could understand. Instead, Sony now has a series of 13 questions that they must answer by end of business Tuesday. More on this in the coming days, I am sure.

The ultra-successful uDraw Game Tablet will be making its way to Xbox 360 and PS3. With no date or price revealed, this is certainly a developing story. It is important, however, as it shows more a casual focus on the ‘core’ systems by the bigger publishers, which may bring a sea change in content they are putting out.
