E311: Hands-on with Chase Mii’s addictive play

Easily the hit of the Nintendo booth, and possibly the entire show, was the extremely fun and addictive Chase Mii demo for Wii U.  For those that have played Pac-Man Versus on the Gamecube, this is essentially the same thing.  It replaces Pac-Man and the ghosts with Miis.  Up to five people can play the game, with one using the Wii U controller to avoid the rest, who are using WiiMotes turned sideways.

The screen on the controller shows an active map of the arena with all the characters, as well as a the player’s third-person view as they try to avoid everyone else.  The TV screen displays a 4-quadrant split screen of the remaining players trying to find and tag the fifth.  It’s so simple, yet SO FUN! Our group, which included SQ’s own Eric Smith, was whooping throughout as we’d get close to the runaway.  Tapping the A button would allow the Mii to jump-dive after the escapee, but missing would result in a stunned thud.

It’s only 60 seconds per match, but it’s a hectic, extremely enjoyable 60 seconds.

If only I could convince my wife that.
