E311: Call of Duty: Elite explained in detail

Confused about Call of Duty: Elite?  We think we may be able to help.  Activision took us into their booth to get us straightened out on this matter.  Jay Puryear, senior director for Treyarch, and Noah Heller, product director at Beachhead, were there to give us a tour of Call of Duty: Elite.

We were told that this handy stat-tracking hub will help dedicated players learn more about their game and gather data that will ideally help their performance.

One problem, Heller noted, was “leveraging the scale of Call of Duty.”  There are 20 million unique players a month, each pumping in hours of their leisure time into the software.  Elite has been in development for about two years, and it was designed to help players track their own stats as well as the stats of others.

The hub is made up of four main categories that you can choose to look at: career, connect, compete, and improve.  Each help you interact with other players and track data.  This data, Heller argues, is what many players require to improve.

Career

Heller compared the career section to a baseball card.  Player stats have been kept since the release of Black Ops so that they could be used for Elite.  When the beta drops on July 14th, the data that players have access to will be comprised of all the multiplayer matches that have taken place on Black Ops thus far.  The stats tracked are deeper than what’s offered in the game and counts things like career deaths, kills, assists, headshots, and more.

Elite will also keep track of specific match data from the past 30 days.  For example, it will not be possible to pull up a match that you played recently and find a map that labels where you’ve stood where you kill players and have been killed by players using green and red dots, respectively.

It’s also easy to look up an opponent and compare their stats with yours, side-by-side.  Got a friend that’s better than you?  It will be easy to find that one stat where you both are almost neck-and-neck, focus on getting ahead, and taking the lead.

Puryear added that Modern Warfare 3 will allow you to create loadouts on the go.  Players will be able to create a loadout on your way home from work by logging onto Elite on a phone and putting a loadout together.  This loadout will be made available to them once they boot up their game at home.
