Apart from Super Mario Bros, there is probably not a video game series more iconic than the Legend of Zelda.  Its sales were always good and its legion of fans never faltered in accepting another new edition in the land of Hyrule.  It regularly recieves high review scores with each new entry, with critics and newcomers alike regularly going ga-ga.  The series has also spawned what many consider to be the best game ever made, Ocarina of Time.

But since Wind Waker‘s artistic take, the series has been dubbed “stagnant” in terms of innovation.  The first Wii incarnation, Twilight Princess, although including the ability to transform into a wolf, centered more on story and character development instead of the action and adventure that previous Zelda games had enriched themselves in.  Miyamoto’s love of cave exploration and action had become second to the glitz and glamor associated with new hardware, it can be said.

With Skyward Sword coming later this year, and the 25th Anniversary upon us, many have high hopes for what the next iteration will bring.  What would you change in the Zelda series, if anything?  What would you improve, add, or remove?  Or, does the series need any changing at all?  Is it on the right path?  Leave your comments below, and we’ll compile as many as possible into a feature article next month.

I don’t know that there’s much you can change about Zelda without changing what the game is. What I mean to say is that what makes Zelda “Zelda” is the formula. You can make Link talk or take away the standard dungeon system but once you do that, why even call it a Zelda game?

Zelda is more than a series; it’s a genre. Change the way the game plays and progresses and it ceases to belong to that genre.

That being said, STOP REHASHING ITEMS! You’re gonna make another Zelda game? Fine. It’s gonna have a familiar story? Fine. But Zelda’s gameplay revolves around the items and how you use them. So if you’re gonna make another Zelda game, gimme new ones! No more boomerang, no more hookshot. Give me all new items and the rest will fall into place.

if the game is called the legend of zelda, maybe in the next game zelda can have her own legendary adventure and save links ass for once.

Don’t make link some anime femmy lame looking character. He looked way cooler in the 80s, now he looks like a chick.
