Should Microsoft abandon the Xbox in Japan?

“Horrid sales. Retailer backlash. Motion-peripheral failures. Bad publicity. Public perception. Lack of exclusives. Last-ditch efforts.” These buzz words may sound like they’re being written on the Nintendo Wii’s tombstone in the US, but in fact they’re a summary of the Xbox 360′s life in Japan. Microsoft has done its best to push their console onto the Asian market, but the cultural divide and the dominance of Nintendo and Sony have kept it to an extreme niche. The Xbox brand will never sell in Japan.

Our question to you:  Is it time that Microsoft stop investing in developing a console for the market, and instead look at over avenues to make profit? Should it leave it all together, or keep trying?

You know, I’ve actually stopped playing my Xbox here for the most part. Only reason I play it now is because I have an ongoing Street Fighter rivalry with a friend and that’s the only system he has.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Microsoft’s marquee franchises (i.e., Halo and GOW) do pretty well in Japan. Not amazingly well–not *Monster Hunter* well–but well enough for American games.
