Gears of War 3 Season Pass

It seems that Epic will be jumping on the new ‘season pass’ bandwagon with the release of Gears of War 3 later this year.

For those not familiar with the latest discount model craze – which has recently been implemented in both Rockstar’s L.A. Noire and NetherRealm Studios’ recent Mortal Kombat reboot – simply put it means purchasing a bundle of present and future DLC for a game at a discounted price.

The Gears of War 3 season pass will be available for $30 (2400 MS Points) or a discount of 33% if you were to buy each of the four pieces of DLC covered by the pass piecemeal.

While I’m fairly certain absolutely no one with half a brain will balk at the idea of discounts, I would be less surprised to hear of potential consumers getting worked up over the four, yet-to-be-detailed content packs totalling $45 when bought individually. Yowch!

In contrast, Gears of War 2‘s similar content bundle, the ‘All Fronts Pack’, weighed in at a lean, mean 1600 MS points ($20) and included every, single expansion for the game!

Is this just another indicator of the rising cost of DLC on XBLA? Will GW3′s add-ons really be worth three quarters the asking price of the actual game? Can I possibly shunt any more esoteric acronyms into this article!?

WTF, IDK. IDGARA.

They’ve been promoting this for a while, but the only thing I’m concerned about is a re-release with the content included. When I traded in my Gears 1 & 2, I repurchased the Gears 2 that included the All Fronts Pack. It was less than buying the $20 Pack by itself. I don’t want to get swindled because I adopted to the season pass, only for it to be included in a release or package down the line.

PS: any idea of who the guy is they have on the promotion covers for the Season Pass?

I’m afraid of the exact same thing. It seems to be a sad fact of life that early adopters will always get boned by the corporate machine.

As for the Warrior-George-Costanza dude, I haven’t a clue. I haven’t played any previews but I’d be willing to guess that he’s one of the new playable characters from the co-op campaign.
