Diablo 3 Has a Release Date

I had it all planned out: I would sit our grandkids down by the fire, we’d sip our hot chocolate whilst wrapped in our warm blankets, and I would tell then a story. I would tell them the story of the game that never came out. I would tell them of the years I had waited, eating up every scrap of information Blizzard let fall from their golden table. I would tell them of the many false promises of vague release dates. “2011”, they said. “Quarter 1, 2012”, they said. “March or maybe April”, they said. And then I had planned to tell them it was because I didn’t eat my vegetables or something. I don’t know. Maybe I’d use it to trick them into washing my car, telling them the next Pokemon game will never come out if they don’t.

But Blizzard has crushed that dream by giving Diablo 3 a firm release date of May 15th. Given Blizzard’s firm “when it’s done” mentality concerning release dates, the fact that they’ve given an exact date is comforting to say the least.

Blizzard has opened up digital pre-sales as of today for Windows and OSX, although that’s only for the standard version at $60. The collector’s edition will be available in stores for $100. Of course, World of Warcraft players can still snag a free copy of the standard edition by signing up for a WoW annual pass up until May 1st.

So it looks like I’m going to have to come up with a new story to scare my grandkids. I guess I can still tell them about Half Life 3….
