Weekly Nintendo Download – March 15th

Welcome to our new weekly feature here at SideQuesting, the Weekly Nintendo Download. Every Thursday at Noon EST, Nintendo releases new digital content for the 3DS, Wii, and DSi. Let’s see what Ninty has to offer us this week.

Hello again. This is Patrick Wainwright bringing you the best, the worst, and everything in between for download this week on your Nintendo systems. As always I will give my recommendation at the end. Don’t forget to leave your recommendations in the comments.

1) Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble for the 3DS eShop.

Nintendo has finally released Virtual Console games for the Sega Game Gear. For many former Sega children like myself this is a momentous and joyous day. I always enjoyed the portable sonic games, especially since they were completely different from the Genesis games. Triple Trouble is a wonderful title and a great showcase of how much fun Sonic used to be.

2) Shinobi for the 3DS eShop.

Shinobi is the second Game Gear game this week. I have fond memories of playing this title as well. You begin the game with one ninja and unlock more as you beat each level. All of the ninjas have different weapons and skills. If you’re looking for some portable Shinobi action this is a fun title.

3) Dragon Crystal for the 3DS eShop.

Rounding out the Game Gear three pack is Dragon Crystal. This title is a brutal slog through a labyrinth all in search of the magic goblet. Your character is able to find new weapons, equipment, and magic spells.

4) Pirates Assault for the 3DS eShop and DSiWare.

Pirates Assault is a tower defense game. In this instance you must build up cannons and fortifications to protect your treasure. The most notable element of this game is instead of using money as currency, the game uses Rum. Tower defense games are becoming a little too common these days buts its hard to complain about one that only costs the bare minimum of $2 of virtual Nintendo funds.

5) Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa’s Revenge for the Wii Virtual Console

I feel spoiled. Nintendo has released two Wii virtual console games in two consecutive weeks. And both of them are Neo Geo titles. You don’t see this happen too often. Samurai Shodown IV is the next game in this weapon based fighter. One of the most noticeable moves added to it is the ability to commit suicide. The benefit of this “honorable death” is to start the next round with a full POW gauge.

This was quite the week for Virtual Console fans. Four titles across two systems. Finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for is here. My weekly recommendation is…..Sonic the Hedghoge: Triple Trouble. I am a big fan of this game and cannot wait to play through it again. Enjoy this virtual goodness and remember to share your picks.
