Real, live Kirk/Spock portray themselves in Star Trek video game. Wait… Oh, god no!

Fans of 2009’s Star Trek reboot/sequel/prequel may be getting their next dose of Kirk and Spock in video game form. Zachery Quinto and Chris Pine, the actors that portrayed Mr. Spock and Captain James T. Kirk in the film, will be reprising their roles in the upcoming Star Trek video game.

The game is set to take place between the events of the 2009 film and next years sequel. Earlier this week, Namco Bandai confirmed that the Gorn (the big, green lizard-guy species Kirk fought back in the original series) would be one of the game’s antagonists. Other actors from the film that will be “depicted” in the new game include Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Karl Urban (Bones), John Cho (Sulu) and Anton Yelchin as Chekov. As to why the developers weren’t able to secure their voices as well, I’d assume it’s because they’re all too busy working on serious, important films like Colombiana and Fright Night and to be bothered (side note: Ghost Protocol was actually pretty good).

No word yet on a release date beyond “2013”, but if I were a betting man, I’d place it sometime around the release of Abrams’ new film. I’ll be preserving myself inside of this transporter buffer until then.

Here’s a trailer.
