October Movie Marathon: Week 1

October Movie Marathon: Week 1

Well it’s been a little over a week, and the hits just keep coming, I guess. I’ve been asked several times why I put myself through this and I guess maybe I should explain, though it’s really not that interesting.

I love 80’s movies. Pretty much all of them. However, horror movies hold a special place in my heart. Horror movies back when I was a kid were always trying to be the goriest, bloodiest, most depraved things. I remember reading Fangoria as a kid and seeing all the disgusting movie monsters and death scenes and thinking that I really wanted to see how this came about.

Movies back then weren’t about story, or acting, or even plausibility. They were split into basically two groups: movies that were gory and knew they were just about killing, or movies that were gory and were all about the absurdity of it all. One of my favorite movies of all time is Friday The 13th Part VI. It’s the one where you can really tell that they just gave up on trying to scare people and just wanted to make the most horrific death scenes they could, not matter how dumb they were.

So what have I seen so far? Well there has been a lot of garbage so far. I have seen movies that are considered ‘classics’, and I have seen movies that people go out of their way to avoid. Notably, I watched Hellraiser for the first time and thought it was a great film. It really makes me see why people loved those first couple so much. Speaking of movies that people love, I saw Twilight. Why people love those movies is totally beyond me. I also watched Vampegeddon which is probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen. People clearly in their late thirties trying to portray goth kids in college and the entirety of the dialog is recorded as ADR. Hell, I even threw in The Garbage Pail Kids movie, because it is so horrific that it might as well be a horror movie.

Coming up this week I have been watching a lot of movies about high school and the perils found with in. Also a couple sequels (spiritual or not) to previous movies that probably should have been left as a dead series. I’m looking for more suggestions and hopefully one of them will be a movie that will be literally worth writing about. I hope you all are enjoying reading my decent into horror movie madness. Stay tuned for more nonsense over the rest of this month.
