Star Citizen Undocks on Kickstarter

Chris Roberts has already made oodles of money for his upcoming space sim, Star Citizen. However, some people weren’t exactly comfortable sending their money to him directly. So, Roberts has decided to move the project onto… Kickstarter.

Regardless of what you think of the very, very ambitious new project it’s already gained almost half of its $500,000 goal.

As always we urge our readers any crowd-funded product should be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, it would be pretty great if Star Citizen could live up to its promises. The space sim genre has definitely had a bit of a resurgence in the indie community in the past few years, but it’s far from thriving. It’s time we had a new, truly great game in the same vein as Wing Commander. And who better to make it than the man that created Wing Commander?

Sony Lays Off 2000 Employees

Ouch! It looks like Sony has decided to drop 2000 employees this year, with most of the lay-offs hitting their head office. The company expects this will save $378 million dollars starting next year, and every year thereafter.

This actually isn’t too much of a surprise, as it’s following Sony’s announcement of earlier this year that it would be removing 10,000 employees company-wide.

What is surprising is that Sony has chosen to call this staff reduction “early retirement.” We here at SideQuesting have chosen to take this as proof that Sony is staffed entirely by replicants, and that this is just an attempt to cover up their synthetic rebellion.

(Seriously, though. Our hearts go out to those involved.)

Playstation Store Update Delayed

In other “bad things that are happening to Sony” news, it looks like we won’t be getting that snazzy Playstation Store update next week like we thought.

The update has already gone live in certain European countries, but its illustrious arrival has been marred slightly by being completely broken. So, it’s not difficult to imagine that Sony would like to iron out the kinks before dropping it in North America.

GOG Adds Mac Support

As we all know, no Mac user has never played a video game. Luckily, GOG has decided to bring some good old games to the Mac platform.

Finally, Mac users will have access to such classics as Syndicate, Baldur’s Gate and (most importantly) Planescape: Torment.

Having previously had no other way to play these games or even know that they exist, Apple fans will no doubt be blown away by the amazing graphics and shockingly modern gameplay.

Just go buy Planescape: Torment.

Steve’s Favorite Hot Video Game Jam of the Right Now

Silent Hill: Book of Memories is not a Silent Hill game. That being said, it’s the first Silent Hill game that’s ever truly grabbed my attention.

Let me explain.

Book of Memories is dungeon crawling RPG for the Playstation Vita. It’s not, as you would imagine, a survival horror game. That being said, it’s still a hell of a lot of fun. The concept of a lengthy, content-rich game in the style of Diablo (with less of a focus on loot) is pretty cool.

If you absolutely can’t get past the idea of a Silent Hill RPG, then I feel sorry for you. However, if you’re willing to give it a shot, you’ll find a very addictive and dense handheld experience.
