Rob Zachny on Kaos Studios

Freelancer Robert Zachny has a lengthy, in depth look of what working at Kaos Studios was like during the troubled development of Homefront over at Polygon, and the picture it paints is rather bleak.

In an industry where things like EA Spouse and The Trenches give equally troubling glimpses behind the curtain of game development this is another piece of the puzzle, and hopefully the light being shed can be a small part in changing the grueling culture behind our favorite hobby and pastime.

38 Studios to be sued by Rhode Island

In a move that some people find stupid, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation will be suing the 38 Studios members who were responsible for a $75 million loan on the taxpayer’s dime. In a statement that seems blissfully unaware of its own irony, the EDC wants to rectify the colossal waste of money by having a drawn out legal process levied against a bankrupt company.

Alexander Sliwinski has a more comprehensive look at the situation, as well as an explanation from lawyer Mark Methenitis over at Joystiq.

Will Wright reflects on Maxis

Game Informer has an interview with games industry legend and icon Will Wright. You may know Will Wright as one of the minds behind SimCity, The Sims, SimGolf, and Spore. He shares some thoughts on what the industry was like before it was an industry, the transition to working underneath the EA umbrella, and where his inspiration comes from.

It’s an interesting look inside the mind of a well-loved game designer, and absolutely worth a read.

Faerie Solitaire free until the 8th

I like “solitaire”. For a long time I held what I’ve been told is one of the highest scores in the free Windows version, and have over 20,000 games of 3-card draw under my belt. None of this is actually news, but hey. It’s been a slow day. Free game, free forever if you get it before the 8th.

Get it.

The Bones Zone

Beta access for everyone who bought into The War Z! With more of the map unlocked it feels like less of a clusterfuck, and one of the recent patches made zombies an actual threat. I’m playing. Are you?
