SideQuesting’s Ultimate Last Minute Geek Gift Guide 2012

2012 holiday gift guide

You’re freaking out. You have 10 more people to buy gifts for (because you’re an excellent little elf, mind you) and you have no idea what to get. To top it off, there’s only about NEGATIVE ZERO DAYS to buy something.

Fear not! We’re back with our third annual Last Minute Gift Guide to save your day! Most affordable shipping methods end on Thursday, so get clicking to grab something before the 25th and avoid the awkward stares!

The following guide contains a ton of great, cool things to get that special person on your list, and they’re all under $30!

And, you can always check out last year’s guide for even more ideas.

Animal Man: the Hunt

Animal Man, Vol. 1: The Hunt ($10.01)

Steven: This is, without question, one of the very best mainstream comics on the market. If you’re into horror comics but still want to keep up with the main DC universe, this is the book for you. Fair warning, the series ties pretty heavily into Scott Snyder’s Swamp Thing, so you may want to look into that as well.

daredevil

Daredevil, Vol. 1 ($10.01)

Steven: Mark Waid’s take on Daredevil has been the very antithesis to modern comics, which is ironic given the series’s past. It’s fun, it’s quirky and it’s often pretty funny. If you’re tired of dark and brooding protagonists, make sure to check this one out.

John Dies at the End

John Dies at the End ($10.87)

Steven: Welcome to one of the most bizarre science-fiction/fantasy books you will ever read. Written by Cracked.com’s “David Wong” (Jason Pargin), John Dies at the End is a weird, dark and humorous take on just about every horror trope there is. There’s also a movie on the way, so now might be a good time to catch up.

USB socket

USB Wall Outlet ($27.49)

Steven: As someone that has to listen to Dali whine about charging things through USB every hour, on the hour, I can’t recommend this one enough. If you’ve been whining about not having enough USB outlets lately, you no longer have any excuse.

[/box_light][box_light]

plug adapter

Power Brick Plug Adapters ($5.25-$10.58)

Doug: Make your normal unwieldy laptop charger a little more “Mac like” with out having the brick in the middle of the cable to the laptop and the wall.

[/box_light][box_light]

macro-eye

MACRO-EYE Flexible Macro Lens for Smartphones ($5.99)

Doug: Add great close-up shots and effects to your smart phone, easily.

[/box_light][box_light]

Star Wars Glasses

Star Wars 10 oz Glass Set ($15.99)

Eric: Get ready for Episode VII well ahead of time with these great ale glasses.

[/box_light][box_light]

stanley flask

Stanley Classic Steel Flask ($23.78)

Eric: Perfect for New Years celebrations, and every day after that.

[/box_light][box_light]

The Mongoliad

Mongoliad, by Neal Stephenson ($8.97)

Ryan F:  The Foreworld Saga books by Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, and several other guys — inspired by their collective interest in Western martial arts —  also inspired the Kickstarter for Neal’s game CLANG.

[/box_light][box_light]

u-fizz

U-FIZZ Drink Carbonation Kit ($4.99)

Ryan F: A cheaper, less full-featured alternative to the SodaStream, U-FIZZ works as a quick way to get that carbonation you desire.

[/box_light][box_light]

hot wheels general mills

Hot Wheels General Mills Cereal 2011 Nostalgia Series ($9.99-$13.99)

Dali: Hot Wheels are ALWAYS a great holiday gift, and can usually be found for about a buck. Last year, Hot Wheels teamed up with General Mills to create special retro cereal cars for around $3 each. They’re super rare and collectible now, and today’s value is already up to $14. Expect that value to jump over the years!

[/box_light][box_light]

Lands of Ice and Fire

The Lands of Ice and Fire – A Game of Thrones ($25.00)

Dali: If you’re a massive fan of the Game of Thrones TV show and the Song of Ice and Fire books, then this is a must. Beautiful illustrated maps of every aspect of the world that the series takes place in, every city and town, every House…  an amazing collection.

[/box_light][box_light]

dali melting clock

“Can You Imagine” Melting Clock ($11.79)

Dali: My name is Dali, so this one is a no-brainer. And hey, it actually works, too!
