Monster Hunter 4 delayed to ‘Summer 2013’

There is going to be a riot in Japan. Monster Hunter 4, which was announced a little over a year ago at TGS, was scheduled to release there for the 3DS in March of 2013. Today, Capcom announced that the game would be pushed back to Summer 2013 to “further meet the demands and expectations” of the users. Translation: there are still a few giant bugs to be squashed and amazing weapons to be added. Monster Hunter is arguably the most popular series in Japan, and this delay now leaves a gaping hole in the 3DS lineup for several months.

As for us in the US, the game was never announced for release here. However, with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate launching here on the Wii and 3DS in March of 2013, there’s more time for the Western audiences to jump into the series a little deeper. Perhaps Capcom will be watching the performance of the MH3 games to gauge if MH4 is worthy of a release.

Disney Infinity is coming to rain on the Skylander parade

Formerly Toy Box?

While the world waits with bated breath for Nintendo to release a Pokemon collectible figurine game for the Wii U in the style of Skylanders, other companies decided that they seem to like making money A LOT more. Disney has begun sending out invites for a “Disney Infinity” event on January 15th. What is Infinity? No one really knows, though it MAY be related to a gaming initiative within the company known as “Toy Box”. On hand will be Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants and Disney/Pixar CCO John Lasseter, a personal hero among many a SideQuester.

Rumor and speculation suggests that the House of the Mouse is formulating a Toy Story-style super game that utilizes RFID/NFC based toys and figures to introduce new characters. Think Skylanders with Disney characters, which could be pretty awesome. Disney does have some pretty great original characters, and it may be a blast to play a game as all of the Disney Princesses at once.

As an aside, we could see this potentially spreading across all of Disney’s brands in the future: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. Yeah, THAT could be pretty epic.

Thieves make off with 7000 Wiis (or Wii Us?)

Black Wii Console

Sometimes, thieves do things in smart ways — outside of stealing things, of course. Intrepid scoundrels have managed to steal 7000 Nintendo consoles from a warehouse in Seattle. Sometime on Saturday evening, the team from Heat managed to break in, load up trucks, and vanish into the night unseen. The total damage is over $2 Million, but the authorities are hot on the case.

What we’re all trying to figure out is this: WHICH Nintendo console was stolen? Several outlets are reporting that it was 7000 Wiis that were ripped off, while others say it was Wii U consoles. Granted it’s PROBABLY the Wii U, as the $2 Million equates to around $300 per console, but the police report doesn’t exactly say that.

Any smart thief already knows that Wiis are going for around $90-$100 at retailers this season, and that’s already a steal in itself.

The future of police trucks is very gamey

carbon police truck
Looks like it’s straight out of Twisted Metal

As the New Millenium continues, science fact is catching up to science fiction. The latest, this beast of a truck concept designed for use by local and state police, looks like it belongs in [insert popular near-future game here]. The TX7 from Carbon Motors (out of Indiana, USA) is was designed in just 8 months, is made from an existing chassis and parts, and can carry up to 10 passengers. It’s meant to be used in any way imaginable, including as a mobile hub during disaster situations.

Cars are pretty bad ass, you guys. This one looks ready to tackle the upcoming apocalypse for sure. It’s just too bad that it doesn’t go on sale until the second half of 2013 (and for $150k).
