This is most certainly Super Bowl week, and we’ve done our best not to post anything related to the Big Game. I’m sure everyone will be watching it anyways, and doesn’t need us to remind them about THE GREATEST NIGHT IN AMERICAN TELEVISION EACH YEAR.

With that said, we did want to bring up the actual video game news related around the event. This week marked the 19th Madden Bowl, the  annual Madden NFL tournament that pits professional football players against each other in the digital, less concussion-wielding version of the sport. As each generation of players takes its first steps onto the field, along with it comes more and more gaming experience. This year epitomized it, as the NFL’s hopeful Draftees — the players who haven’t actually played a game — beat out the Young Guns (rookies).

The tournament is set up in four teams of three players, with each player rotating in and out, and the game played on the Xbox 360. The Draftees (E.J. Manual of FSU, Denard Robinson of Michigan, and Kenjon Barner of Oregon) beat the Guns (Trent Richardson of Cleveland, Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin, and the Bengals’ AJ Green) in a 21-7 final. And, though it’s not a true test of field action, it perhaps will help them get more locker room respect after one of their future teams inevitably loses to the Cleveland Browns in the preseason.

One other worthy note: EA Sports is expected to debut the next game in the illustrious series, Madden 25 (for the 25th anniversary), during the Super Bowl. You can watch the official Madden Bowl recap below.
