Journey bankrupted thatgamecompany, next game to be multiplatformJourney-610x343

It looks like thatgamecompany is looking to change up their business model.

While speaking to Polygon after his DICE presentation, thatgamecompany founder Jenova Chen explained how he believed that in order for his company to make money, they had to look beyond the Playstation. “I think to have financial success, that is going to change everyone, it has to be much bigger than a game on the Playstation platform.”

During his talk, he also stated that developing Journey just about bankrupted thatgamecompany. Chen plans on making sure that his game will be multiplatform and that it will be funded with venture capital.

Good things can come from this as one of the main reasons I purchased a Playstation 3 a few years ago was to have access to these unique experiences (such as Flower and PixelJunk Eden) that were only available on PSN. The gaming community will be much better off (and hopefully, more mature) if these thought-provoking and daring games were to be accessible to more people.

G4 becomes Esquire in April

The New York Times has reported that NBC Universal has recently made a deal with Hearst Magazine to rebrand G4 as the Esquire Network.

Instead of covering games, pop culture, and tech, the new channel will focus on… fancy stuff — you know, things that would appeal to gentlemen (like cars, travel, cooking, and fashion).

Though I can’t say I took in much G4 nor do I plan on tuning in for the Esquire Network, changes like this are always scary for those involved. We at SideQuesting hope that anyone who is affected by this change in the near future may land on their feet soon.

76M Xbox units sold worldwide, 24M Kinect units sold

Microsoft recently announced that it has sold 76 million Xbox 360 and 24 million Kinect units worldwide. That is a butt-load of money. On top of this, they’ve also estimated 46 million memberships to Xbox Live. Wow.

One can’t help but go back to that first story and think about how thatgamecompany’s next game could be available to all these people in the future. We can’t wait!
