Started in December of 2011, Westeroscraft brought together fans of A Song of Ice and Fire in Minecraft. Their collective goal was to recreate the series’ world, taking cues from the books and the Game of Thrones TV series. Over the last year the group has held coordinated sessions to build different sections of towns, landscapes, castles, and parts of The Wall.

All of this is leading towards creating a PvP (Player vs Player) world where players and fans will be able to experience the world first hand.

Visiting the world is pretty incredible (if you can make it through their already-swamped servers). Winterfell is incredibly detailed, with battlements, hallways, bedrooms and stables recreated as faithfully to the world as possible. Without torches it would easy to get lost in its hallways. As a complete labor of love, it’s perhaps the best recreation of the books in video game form to date.

It’s an incredible undertaking, but one that will undoubtedly lead to some equally incredible adventures. And hopefully dragons. Lots of dragons.
