Today at a panel during PAX East, Blizzard announced a free-to-play collectable card game, titled Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. The game will have at least 300 cards, and will come in packs of five either through purchase, or earning them through play. The game will use Battle.Net for matchmaking purposes.

A major component of the game will be card crafting. You will be able to merge various duplicate cards of many types to create new cards. The deck building system can be done in many ways, you can let it be done automatically, or change the deck to fit your own design. The class you choose will dictate the deck you build. The abilities you choose to fit your class will make each deck unique.

Blizzard’s goal is to release Hearthstone into every territory in which WoW is available. The plan is for a simultaneous PC and Mac release, with an iPad version down the line. This summer, Blizzard hopes to make the beta available this summer, and you can sign up here.
