After being mentioned as a side note in just about every press conversation over the past year, Nintendo finally showed a quick look at the next installment of the Super Smash Bros. series. Coming in 2014 for Wii U and 3DS, Smash Bros. looks to continue the tradition of expanding its roster with more pivotal characters from Nintendo’s first party games and inviting a few guests from other famous game series to join in the fight.

The short gameplay video showed off two new characters. Villager, a avatar from Nintendo’s Animal Crossing series and Capcom’s Mega Man. No details about gameplay were shared, but it seems as if final smashes will be returning to the series since it appears that Metroids Samus is seen using one during the trailer. On 3DS the game will feature a cell shaded look around characters, while the Wii U version will stay more in line with the art style used in Brawl, just updated for Wii U’s graphically capabilities.

[UPDATE]

It was announced later in the day that the female trainer from Nintendo’s Wii Fit games will also be a playable character in the new Smash Bros.
