SideQuesting’s Most Anticipated Games of E3 2013: Dragon’s Crown

Dragon's Crown E3

SideQuesting has a list! Just like any other good website looking for easy views and comment wars, we’ve assembled a mega list of the games that we’re most excited about for E3 2013. There are several, and we *hope* that they’re all awesome. I guess we find out in a week! Anyhoo, enjoy our Most Anticipated Games of E3!

Odin Sphere. Muramasa. And now Dragon’s Crown. The team behind Vanillaware, Japan’s preeminent developer of absolutely mind-blowingly gorgeous hand-drawn video games, is back with its latest game designed for the Playstation 3 and PS Vita. Dragon’s Crown takes medieval ideologies and mixes it with modern orc-mashing, action and RPG elements. Similar to previous Vanillaware games, you have a hectic hack-and-slash built upon multiple plot elements weaving together.

First thoughts are based on the classic Gauntlet games, and how the characters here (wizard, knight, archer, etc) mimic those mainstays. The game is designed for multiple playthroughs, examining how the story grows and changes with each decision made and character chosen. As the levels unfold, players are tasked with fighting or running, stealing items or avoiding confrontation. Splitting paths along the way determine which enemies are faced and how the plot unfolds.

The gameplay mechanic is simple, but with the six different classes it can provide a ton of versatility and multiple playthroughs. But really, it’s the art that gets us excited. The amount of detail in character design, the amazing environments, the beautiful effects… this game looks to be wonderful just to keep on our Vitas for eye-gasms. It arrives this year on the Vita and PS3.
