That right there is your Steam Machine, straight from Valve. During a meeting with the company, Seattle Times Technology Columnist Brier Dudley had the chance to see the device up close, chatting with the company about its plans for invading our living room.

Without taking too much away from the Times, you can read that full piece here.

Well now we all look stupid.

Yes, it’s a box with a big power button, not unlike the visual graphics we’ve been seeing from Valve over the last month or so. It was in front of us all along, and we missed it! D’OH.

There are a couple images of the device, including a svelte gray/silver version shown running the Big Picture view on a TV.

Valve has told us that it is/isn’t/is/isn’t creating its own box, but the article seems to lean more towards the former, and that we’ll see something from the company for sale in 2014.

More interestingly is the series of controller prototypes the company had on display. Before the Owl design, there were giant trackballs on the front, giant trackballs on the back, dual d-pads, and even one that was breakable.

It’ll be interesting to see how SteamOS takes hold over the next year.
