Nintendo adjusts Wii U startup times: Quicker, faster, TV-less

Wii U Fast Startup
The initial launch screen

The Wii U connects to your television, but that doesn’t mean that you need it to play games. Many of us already use the Gamepad on its own to play our wares (warez?) and Nintendo is taking notice. Dinged in the past for its slow load times, the company revealed to investors today that it plans on pushing an update this year that will reconfigure the startup sequence for the console.

The device will now have the option of opening up to a game before heading into a home screen. A push of the Gamepad power button allows a quick menu to blaze up featuring recently used game & app icons. The user selects the game, then selects which Nintendo ID he or she is logging in from. Finally, the Wii U begins its launch into the game or home screen. This is meant to cut down times for getting to games by up to 50%.

The update is coming in “early Summer”.
