E3 2015: Bossa Studios Shows Updated I Am Bread & New IP Worlds Adrift

I Am Bread was a weird little game that captured a lot of hearts and minds and brought a lot of people into the Early Access ecosystem on PC. Now that Sony is working more and more with indies, it’s exciting to see such a strange title seeing a major console release.

The upcoming PS4 port of I Am Bread will feature the full story mode, and additional modes wherein you play as different types of pastries, altering the objectives and play style.

I got the chance to try out the bagel mode, which places more emphasis on traversal and speed. The bagel is incredibly fast, and you find yourself blazing through the courses laid out in existing game levels, constantly falling off or falling behind and having to use the quick reset to re-center myself on the course. It’s a fun addition to the game, for sure, and definitely adds a fresh feel to some old environments.

Bossa Studios’ lead designer, Luke Williams, also talked about another mode in which you’ll play as a baguette, thrashing around the level and being scored on how much damage you can do.

In addition to showing of I Am Bread, and perhaps a bit more notable is Worlds Adrift, Bossa Studios’ new IP currently in development.

Worlds Adrift is a much more ambitious outing for the studio than their previous releases, and is a multiplayer open world adventure game set in a world of airships and floating islands. Players can explore the world either via their ever-upgradable airship or on foot with the help of a grappling hook.

Ships can be upgraded with materials found in the world, and they can also be damaged or destroyed. If damaged, the parts will fall off, and if another player gets to them and picks them up, they can attach them to their own ship, or break them down for materials to craft other upgrades.

I was only shown video, but was assured that the footage was captured earlier that week from an extremely recent build, and I have to say that for a game that is less than a year in development, it really looks nice. The clouds tech in particular is especially impressive, and to see such a hardcore physics engine employed in an open world environment is exciting.

Of course I can’t say how it will play, and the game is quite a ways off, but it really looks promising, and I can’t wait to see more.

I Am Bread is available now on PC and is coming to PlayStation 4 this summer.

Worlds Adrift is currently in development, with a release date TBD.
