E3 2015: No Man’s Sky is Actually a Universe

Though it was one of the most anticipated titles from last year’s E3, not much was actually known about No Man’s Sky.  Hello Games described their ambitious title as a procedurally generated, science-fiction exploration game with survival elements. They also promised players an entire universe to explore, and many were skeptical about how such a thing was possible.

As was revealed at Sony’s E3 press conference, these promises were no exaggeration. The live gameplay reinforced that No Man’s Sky will be a “universe-sized sandbox.” Apparently, every visible star marks an entire solar system begging to be explored, and space itself appears nearly infinite. Each planet within those solar systems touts their own flora and fauna, combating factions, and destructible environments.  Points of interest help direct players to areas that are ripe for exploration and research.

As Sean Murray so wisely put it, most solar systems in No Man’s Sky have never been visited and many never will be. Watch the live gameplay demo below to see how an entire universe can fit on a television screen. There is still no release date set for No Man’s Sky, but this title looks like it’s worth waiting for.
