The League of Explorers arrives on Hearthstone

Blizzcon has come and gone and it brought lots of exciting news this past weekend. At this year’s convention the company wasted no time diving into new content, beginning with the announcement of Hearthstone’s third solo adventure, The League of Explorers. This new expedition began yesterday, November 12th, releasing each wing for 700 gold coins, or $19.99 USD to unlock all four. Players who attended Blizzcon will also receive their exclusive cardback.

The League of Explorers brings one of our favorite dwarfs into the game, Brann Bronzebeard, whom we enjoyed seeing in our adventures of Uldaman in World of Warcraft. Adding 45 new cards to the mix that will shake up the current Meta, this will keep the ladder ranks exciting to climb. During the 2015 Hearthstone World Championship at the convention, we saw Ostkaka take the title with his Freeze Mage, Oil Rogue, and Control Warrior decks, so we can be well assured Blizzard will continue to make changes to the game to keep it from becoming stale, as players will come up with innovative decks with cards from the new expansion.

Animated Armor

Each of the new wings will reward a new Legendary card like we’ve seen in the past, as well as awarding a special card back for defeating the entire expansion on heroic mode. We will be entertained with 2 brand new game boards, too, and all new interactive effects on the board for spam clicking your heart out. Alas another new (perhaps not-so-welcome) game mechanic was introduced to Hearthstone known as “Discover”; this will allow players to choose from 1 of 3 cards to be placed into their hand. As we’ve seen with Hand Lock decks, hand advantage has been a huge thing in this game since the launch of Hearthstone, so we’ll see how this affects strategies going forward.

Card-wise, one that I’m most excited about is Animated Armor for Mages, a 4 drop 4/4 that will allow your hero to only take 1 damage per attack. Surely you’re thinking what I am: one more card to slow down agro decks.

The League of Explorers is now available for download, so make sure you’ve got your favorite caffeinated beverage cup to keep you up all night. It really doesn’t matter if it’s decorated with Christmas cheer or not, because where we’re going no one has adventured before.
