[E3 2016] Destiny’s next expansion, Rise of Iron, arrives in September

It seems like every Destiny expansion brings us closer and closer to a futuristic Game of Thrones. Revealed today, Rise of Iron will focus on the aptly named Iron Lords, a mountain-dwelling band of Guardians who were tasked with watching over Old Russia. And the trailer has direwolves.

Okay, saying that this is Game of Thrones with laser guns is a stretch, but the images of a giant (Russian) wall and the snowy landscape make me want to re-read A Feast for Crows. Rise of Iron will be the last big expansion for the game, as leaked legal documents have revealed that developer Bungie has also been working on a sequel to the game.

The situation is dire...wolves.
The situation is dire…wolves.

ROI brings a new campaign with new missions and quests, centered around stopping the ancient evil that the Iron Lords kept at bay. It brings back the popular Gjallarhorn weapon and new raids, strikes and public events. And includes new locations like the Plaguelands, Felwinter Peak and a place called… “The Wall.”

Okay Bungie, now this is getting awkward.

Rise of Iron releases on September 20th for Xbox One and PS4 (sorry, old gen!) and requires both the original Destiny and The Taken King expansion.
