Fan films of video games are all over the place on the web, and the majority aren’t anything to write home about. So, when one comes along that’s done well, it easily stands out above the rest. Terrible Fate, by Ember Labs, not only stands out but also blows most other fan films away.
The video is set as a prologue to the events of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and gives a back story to the Skull Kid and his coming into possession of the mask. The narrative moves quick, but ends on a heartbreaking, somber note. The visuals are as beautiful as the narrative, with lifelike textures wrapping decidedly Zelda style. The soundtrack is equally haunting, pushing the now-familiar Majora tune to new limits.
