The new trailer for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild shows Hyrule in ruins

Nintendo sure knows how to set a mood with its game trailers. Possibly the most-anticipated game for the company is the new Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While it’s still coming in 2017 (hopefully sooner rather than later) the Big N continues to drip us some increasingly juicy videos.

During this week’s Game Awards 2016, Nintendo revealed more about the game. The latest two videos, a gameplay of a new jungle area and our first story-related trailer, give us some of the best glimpses at the world yet… at least what has befallen it. In “Life in the Ruins,” we see what appears to be a Hyrule full of life, only to be decimated later and turned into the broken world we’ve seen in other videos.

This potentially gives us an idea of the game’s plot and setting. It could mean that the game begins in the happy, modern Hyrule we all know, until some technological being (we have ships!) destroys the world around us. We even catch Link in an emotionally broken state, as he kneels before the destruction, next to what we presume is Princess Zelda.

Hopefully not more more time is left until Breath of the Wild releases, so we’ll have to enjoy anything we get until then.
