Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia remake launching on 3DS in May

Not content with giving up on the 3DS just yet, Nintendo has revealed that a new (old) Fire Emblem game will be arriving for the popular portable.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a remake of second Fire Emblem game, Gaiden, first published for the Famicom in 1992. The game takes place on the continent of Valentia, where two opposing nations are on the cusp of war. It’s a similar story to many other modern FE games, but since this is based on a predecessor it’s technically earlier.

The game isn’t just a graphical port, either. The freer sense of roaming and character-building that was a key aspect of the original game is updated here, and will set it apart from Awakening and Fates. The game will also utilize amiibo, to bring in characters. Revealed were amiibo based on the two title characters of the game, Alm and Celica.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia launches May 19 around the world.
