PlayStation VR nears 1 million sales figure

The PlayStation VR hasn’t exactly been smack dab in the public eye at the moment. With Oculus VR sets being pulled from Best Buy, roomscale VR difficult to showcase to the masses, and a lack of a steady stream of big titles, the technology may seem like its hitting a small snag. Even Sony’s reporting of PSVR sales figures on a monthly basis has been absent, leading many to believe that the product wasn’t selling well.

Well, Sony can now say otherwise. The company revealed today that the PSVR has managed to sell 915,000 units, besting what the company was hoping for at 750k units. Thanks to titles like Resident Evil VII and the upcoming Farpoint, there are slowly starting to be some more marquee releases.

Perhaps one of the reasons that it hasn’t sold more may just be good old manufacturing output. “We are increasing production to meet demand and will continuously support content developers as they create innovative VR experiences that are only possible on PlayStation,” stated Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. With more than 360 developers for the platform, they’ll need hardware to get into users hands if they hope to keep the pace.
