The next Call of Duty is named “WWII”, reveal coming April 26

When Activision said they were going back to basics with Call of Duty, they weren’t kidding. The company confirmed rumors today that the next game in the series takes them back to World War II, and it’s named… WWII.

Okay, so it’s not the most original name, and it’s clearly meant to (quite literally) try and one up Battlefield 1, but fans have been asking for a return to the era for some time now.

Though we enjoyed Infinite Warfare, we realize that the last several iterations have been heading further and further into the future and may be becoming repetitive in theme. Going all the way back will be a stark departure from that, but perhaps a welcome one. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, this marks the first time since Call of Duty 3 that someone other than Treyarch has developed a historical era edition.

Activision will be hosting a livestream on April 26 at 10:00 AM PDT / 1:00 PM EDT on CallofDuty.com to fully reveal the game.
