Destiny 2 for PC will be available via Blizzard’s Battle.net

During today’s Destiny 2 Gameplay Premiere Bungie made a surprise announcement that the PC edition of the game will only be available via Blizzard’s Battle.net. Okay, maybe not that surprising since Blizzard is owned by Activision Blizzard.

This will be the first non-Blizzard game to grace the Battle.net platform. It currently houses World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo 3, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch. Even though Blizzard have stated that they would only house Destiny 2 as its sole non-Blizzard game, I wonder if this is a power move by Activision to use Battle.net to support more Activision games much like EA’s Origin services.

So, what does this mean for Destiny 2? It means that they have one of the more reliable services when it comes to online gameplay (well, we will see how the queue lines will be the first week the game is released) and have access to a player community that is loyal to Blizzard games. It will be interesting how much of the Blizzard fanbase will be purchasing the game at launch. Bungie is still in charge of maintaining their own servers and customer services, and Blizzard will take care service for Platform and shop issues.

Destiny 2 will be available on September 8. 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
