Super NES Classic Edition announced, coming September 29

Rumored for months, the reality has come and the singularity has happened:

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition is a real thing, and it’s coming in September.

September 29, to be exact.

The console, which many (rightfully, IMHO) argue is the greatest ever, will debut with 21 games, including the never released StarFox 2. Also included are JRPG heavyweights Final Fantasy III (or VI, as we now know it), Earthbound and Super Mario RPG. Interestingly, StarFox 2 is only available once players make it through the first level of the original StarFox. The console will come with two controllers, HDMI cable and USB power plug, all for $79.99.

Though two controllers are packed in, the device will be compatible with the Wii’s Classic Controller™ and Classic Controller Pro™, which the NES Classic also supported.

The games included are:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars™
  • Donkey Kong Country™
  • EarthBound™
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO™
  • Kirby™ Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course™
  • The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
  • Mega Man® X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox™
  • Star Fox™ 2
  • Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV™
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
  • Super Mario Kart™
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
  • Super Mario World™
  • Super Metroid™
  • Super Punch-Out!! ™
  • Yoshi’s Island™
