Hot Take: WWE SummerSlam

Hot Take: WWE SummerSlam

The WWE’s PPV SummerSlam has come and gone, but the feelings still linger. As much as I would love to go in-depth with all the matches on the card, I wouldn’t have enough time to do that. So, here are my thoughts on each match (not including Pre-Show) that had the most importance.

John Cena vs. Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin debuted his new entrance theme for this match. Much like the song, the match… was boring. You gotta give John Cena credit though, he really tried to get the match going but he just couldn’t. This wasn’t going to happen on this night.

Natalya vs. Naomi(c) for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

This was a decent match. Both women fought hard, and there were some good spots here and there. I may not be the biggest fan of hers but I’m happy that Natalya won. Smackdown Live will be interesting with her as Champ.

Big Cass vs. Big Show with Enzo in a Sharkcage

Probably the only good spot of this match was when Enzo oiled himself up and slid out of the Sharkcage only to get booted by Big Cass.

Randy Orton vs. Rusev

Randy Orton heads to the ring, but Rusev attacks from behind before the match starts. When both finally make it in, one RKO and the match is over. Thanks for the fight Rusev.

Sasha Banks vs. Alexa Bliss(c) for the RAW Women’s Championship

First off I am going to proclaim that Alexa Bliss is my wrestling waifu. That being said her match with Sasha was really good and felt like an NXT Women’s match. From beginning to end I really enjoyed this match. Sasha may have won the title via tapout but Alexa will forever have my heart.

Finn Bálor vs. Bray Wyatt

Its been a year since we last saw “The Demon King” Finn Bálor and he did not disappoint. I just wished it wasn’t against Bray Wyatt as the Eater of Worlds lost. Another match that felt like its from NXT, it was my second favorite match of the night. Who knows what the WWE will do with Bray but I believe they need to give him a major push for a championship, even if it’s the Intercontinental Championship.

Dean Ambrose/Seth Rollins vs. Cesaro/Sheamus(c) for the RAW Tag Team Championship

This was an intriguing match. I was interested on seeing how well Dean and Seth will work together, but at the same time I wasn’t anticipating much. Not sure why because all parties are very talented wrestlers but I think storyline wise it was just more so about Dean/Seth than Cesaro/Sheamus. Dean and Seth won the titles, and I was hoping they would help out another brother of the Shield later in the PPV.

AJ Styles(c) vs Kevin Owens for the United States Championship (Special Guest Referee Shane McMahon)

This was an incredible match and I labeled it as my match of the evening. Go see it. Like, now.

Jinder Mahal(c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship

I know what the WWE is trying to do with the India market. I respect what they are doing with Jinder Mahal because of it. I hate it… but I respect it. Even though Shinsuke should have won the belt that night, because of the Singh Brothers he lost the match. When Shinsuke does win the belt the entire arena is gonna explode.

Fatal 4-Way Match

Brock Lesnar(c) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman

This match was a train wreck and I LOVED IT! Braun showed his power against Brock and it was amazing. This match may not be technically sound but who cares! It was awesome just by the chaos itself!
