Bayonetta 3 Announced at the Game Awards

Bayonetta 3 was announced with a teaser at last night’s video game awards. Here’s the first look.

The teaser for the newly announced Bayonetta 3 opens with a full moon that begins to glow a violent red, foreshadowing an impending conflict. We then see the two pistols that have become idiosyncratic with the witch herself, as she is bashed around like a ragdoll by some invisible entity. Bayonetta falls to the ground, but recovers with no lack of confidence as bullets fly from her guns in the direction of the creature. The camera follows the bullets, which are stopped by a force field and rapidly dissolve, revealing in the background a specter coated in purple flame. It then refocuses on the legs of Bayonetta, which collapse to the ground before dissolving away, her pistols falling to the ground in the absence of her physical body.

Developed by Platinum Games and published by Nintendo, Bayonetta 3 looks to continue the ironic, mercurial, and chaotic stories of its predecessors. It will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch and is “now in development.” We will see what that means for release dates soon. For now, you can watch the teaser below; but, be forewarned, it’s not going to be enough to satisfy your curiosity.

What may scratch your crazy-hair-fighting-dueling-pistol itch until future announcements: the fact that Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 will be released for the Nintendo Switch in early 2018.
