Xbox Game Pass to get day-and-date exclusives

Microsoft is preparing for a hardware-free future with its latest announcement.

When Xbox launched the Game Pass subscription download service back in June 2017, one thing was a glaring omission: new games. While the product had plenty of games, the majority were years old. Where was the new stuff?

Now we know.

Today, the company announced that it will launch all of its first party exclusives on the Game Pass service at the same time as retail. That is, if you’re a subscriber to the service you not only get the large library available, but also brand new games as they are released, beginning with Sea of Thieves this Spring, and Crackdown 3 and State of Decay 2 will also follow. At $9.99 per month, it’s a heck of a deal whenever a new game arrives — you could subscribe for a month and complete a game, for $50 less than it would be to get it at retail.

Though this is currently only available on Xbox One, it’s the next step in the evolution for the company as they seemingly start to move away from Xbox as hardware and more of as a gaming service akin to Netflix.
