The Gears of War franchise returns, with several new games.
During Microsoft’s Xbox E3 event this week, the publisher revealed three games set in the Gears of War IP coming to various devices.
Gears of War POP! aims to bring a more playful spin to the series, as it mashes together the Funko POP stylings with the Gears world, creating a cute, chibi style to mayhem. Though no gameplay was shown, the trailer gives a good indication of how the series will scale down for a potentially more lighthearted approach. It is being designed for mobile platforms.
Gears of War Tactics is a PC turn-based tactical game set in the Gears universe. Taking place prior to the events of the first game, Tactics will eschew the shooting action for a little more methodical play. Players will be able to upgrade their units and engage in massive battles and follow a narrative path.
Finally, Gears of War 5 is the next monster game in the series, and will be as Gears-y as you can imagine on the Xbox One. The trailer follows Kait, joined by several other popular Gears characters, as she leads a squad to discover the origins of the Locust.
All of the games are releasing in 2019.
