Nintendo reveals Link’s Awakening remake for Switch

It’s been a long 26 years since Link’s Awakening first appeared on the Gameboy. Now, Nintendo wants to bring this classic back.

When Link first crashed his ship on Koholint Island, we knew he was in for a mysterious new adventure. With all new dungeons, characters, music and gameplay systems, many could argue that The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was the turning point for the series. It embedded an entirely new way to approach puzzles, character building and narrative for the land of Hyrule, and it did all of it in a diminutive package on a green and white LCD screen.

Now, it’s back.

Nintendo has announced a full remake of the game for the Switch, building on those ideas but created in a beautiful new tilt-shifted visual style. In fact, we’d love to see this same style come to remakes of other classic Zelda games. We don’t know what other new features are being developed, so we’ll have to find out more at a later date. E3 is coming sooner than we think.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening arrives on Nintendo Switch in Autumn 2019.
