NFL Pro Bowl goes to Madden for 2021

This season’s Pro Bowl will be played in the video game

Due to the growing concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the fact that no one really cares about it much anyways, the NFL Pro Bowl will be shifting to a virtual effort at the end of this season. The NFL and NFLPA have announced that the annual barely-a-game matchup between the AFC & NFC will be played over a week, with current and past NFL players, streamers and celebrities vying to take a ProBowl team to the top. The week will culminate with a live matchup on ABC & ESPN.

“Even amidst unparalleled change across the sports industry, we are excited to transition many of the signature components of the Pro Bowl-which will go virtual inĀ Madden NFL 21– into a new innovative experience for our players and fans. We remain committed to using our Pro Bowl platform to empower fans to virtually celebrate the best players in the game,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL EVP of Club Business and Events. “Our partners at EA SPORTS and Verizon are uniquely positioned to help the NFL make the transformation of this high-profile event from live to virtual possible, and we look forward to working closely with them to deliver this unprecedented experience to fans.”

Fans can still vote for their favorite players, which will make up the rosters of the teams. EA Sports will additionally drop Pro Bowl themed content into the game for those at home.

The virtual Pro Bowl is scheduled to take place on January 31, 2021.
